Regular Season Concludes Against Wisconsin Teams

DETROIT -- The tennis dual-match season will conclude this weekend with both Detroit's men's and women's teams hitting the road. The men will play Green Bay at a neutral site at Valparaiso Friday at 3:00 p.m. while the women will play at Green Bay Friday at 6:00 p.m. and at Milwaukee Saturday at 6:00 p.m.

The men (9-13, 3-3 Horizon League) will conclude Horizon League play as the Titans currently sit in fifth looking to secure a berth in the conference tournament with a win. With a 3-3 league record, Detroit is guaranteed a spot in the top six and a place in the Horizon League Tournament in Indianapolis.

The Titans are coming off a split in a pair of non-conference matches last weekend. Detroit earned a 6-1 win over Chicago State Friday evening and the weekend closed with senior day at the Titan Tennis Complex on Saturday. Visiting IUPUI came away with a 5-2 win to dampen the celebration of the 2012 senior class of David Streeter, Nick Tolomei and David Stabley.

Green Bay (16-6, 5-1 HL) sits in second place in the league looking for its sixth win to guarantee a top-two position in the tournament. The Phoenix defeated Butler 6-1 the last time out this past Sunday in Indianapolis and have secured a playoff berth. The one loss in league play for Green Bay came against the current No. 1 seed Wright State as the Raiders escaped Dayton with 4-3 decision on Saturday.

The Detroit women (5-11, 2-4 HL) are back in play after no matches last weekend. The Titans were last in competition on April 6-7 in Detroit as they defeated Valparaiso 6-1 on the April 6 and then fell to the defending Horizon League champion UIC by the same 6-1 score the next day. Detroit has a hold of the No. 6 seed in the conference entering the weekend with two matches to close the regular season. A win for Detroit against Green Bay and a playoff berth is secure for the Titans but a loss will put Detroit on the outside looking in on the final weekend of Horizon League matches.

Green Bay (3-12, 2-5 HL) is looking for a win over Detroit to conclude its season as the Phoenix sit in seventh just behind Detroit but a win would give Green Bay the tiebreaker over Detroit. Green Bay is coming off a pair of 7-0 losses to both Butler and Wright State in its last two matches on Saturday and Sunday.

Milwaukee (12-8, 5-2 HL) has clinched a playoff berth and are currently the No. 3 seed. The Panthers are coming off a 7-0 loss Thursday to UIC. Milwaukee's other Horizon League loss came on April 7 at Cleveland State as the Vikings won a 6-1 decision.

The Horizon League Tournament is the next up on April 27-29 in Indianapolis at North Central High School. The seeds, match-ups and schedules will be determined after the conclusion of this weekend.
