INDIANAPOLIS -- The 2012 men's tennis season came to a close for the Detroit Titans as they fell 4-3 to the Cleveland State Vikings Friday afternoon in the opening round of the Horizon League Tournament at North Central High School in Indianapolis.

"The guys competed well today and it was a good season overall. We have a large number of the same returners coming back next year and I am looking for us to continue to improve and move in the right direction," said head coach Grant Asher.

The Titans started the match Friday by capturing the doubles point as the No. 2 and 3 pairings for Detroit both came out on top of their Viking counterparts. Alex Latosinsky and David Stabley won 8-4 at No. 2 and Pablo Nunez and Jay Joshi won 8-5 in the No. 3 spot.

The match went the distance as the team score was tied 3-3 and the Titans were looking for one final victory to advance to the semifinals on Saturday. Latosinsky played in the No. 2 singles position and won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. Nunez also earned a straight set win at No. 4, 6-3, 6-3 and the final match of the day came down to newcomer Mike Basha at the No. 3 spot.

The match at No. 3 singles pitted Basha against Nolan Marks of the Vikings. Basha jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a 6-4 win in the first set and looked to close out the victory for the Titans with another set win. Marks came back 6-3 in the second frame and the match came down to one last set. Marks emerged with a 6-2 heartbreaker bringing the Detroit season to a close.

The loss brings the collegiate careers of four-year Titan seniors David Stabley and Nick Tolomei as well as David Streeter to a close. Streeter was a graduate student after transferring from Michigan prior to the 2011-12 season.

Due to a less than favorable weather forecast Saturday, the remaining semifinal matches on the men's side will be moved indoors and the fifth place match will not be played.
