DETROIT -- The men's tennis team completed the doubleheader sweep over Valparaiso Friday afternoon following the women's lead downing the Crusaders (6-11, 0-4 Horizon League) by the same 6-1 score that the women defeated Valparaiso earlier on Friday.

The match saw a pair of doubles victories from Mike Basha and Chris Cheung who won 8-4 in the No. 1 position followed by a second win in the No. 3 spot from Jay Joshi and Pablo Nunez who dominated 8-1 in their win. For Joshi and Nunez, it was their third straight Horizon League doubles win as the two lead the Titans (7-12, 2-3 Horizon League) with a 4-1 conference mark together and have won six of their last seven overall.

"Our success has come from having a lot of fun playing together on the court in practice or in the matches. We didn't start off too well this year but after a few wins, we have been playing great, having fun, understanding each other and complementing each other's game," said Nunez.

Nunez along with Cesar Escobar Serrano, Mike Basha, David Streeter and Cheung all came away with singles wins as the team finished with the 6-1 win.

Nunez now has won three straight singles matches and has opened the Horizon League schedule with a 4-1 record.

"It was a good match today. I played him last year at Valpo on the indoor courts and he is a good, scrappy and knows how to play good defense. I knew my game plan going in and I tried to execute as well as I could and it was good that I was successful," added Nunez.

The 4-1 singles mark in the conference ties Nunez with Serrano for the team lead. Serrano also won his match Friday, 7-5, 6-4, and now has a 13-5 overall singles mark in the spring season including just two losses in his last 15 outings. He is now 17-9 overall and has eclipsed new career bests in both overall wins and dual-match wins in singles.

Detroit will host UIC Saturday at 1pm at the Titan Tennis Complex.
