Detroit Earns Second Straight Horizon League Win

DETROIT -- The Titans hosted UIC (2-13, 0-4 Horizon League) on Saturday at the Titan Tennis Complex and Detroit (8-12, 3-3 Horizon League) squeaked out a 4-3 win to even its conference record. It was the second straight win for Detroit and the team's third in the last four contests.
 
Cesar Escobar Serrano improved his singles record to 14-5 in the spring and he secured the clinching win for the Titans in the No. 2 singles position.
 
Singles and Pablo Nunez both improved to 5-1 in Horizon League singles matches as Serrano fought through a three set 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 battle in the clincher. Nunez captured his fourth straight conference win, 6-1, 6-2 as he is now second on the team with a 10-7 singles mark in the spring.
 
Nunez and Jay Joshi combined for another doubles win in the No. 3 spot downing their opponents 8-2. Alex Latosinsky and David Stabley did the same in the No. 2 position winning 8-3. Nunez and Joshi are now 7-5 overall and 5-1 in the Horizon League. Latosinsky and Stabley are 3-3 having maintained their spot as the No. 2 pairing.
 
Chris Cheung recorded the other point for Detroit as he played at No. 5 singles posting a 7-6 (7-3), 7-5 victory.
 
Detroit will conclude its schedule on Friday and Saturday this weekend with matches against Chicago State and IUPUI. Match times and locations will be announced later on in the week on DetroitTitans.com as there is a good chance both will be moved to outdoor locations.
