The 2011-12 squad consisted of 10 players with three seniors, six juniors and one freshman as UDM said goodbye to the first four-year senior class since re-instituting the men's tennis program four years ago.
David Stabley and
Nick Tolomei were both brought in as by Asher four years ago and both Stabley and Tolomei along with one-year senior
David Streeter served as a co-captain this past season. Streeter was at the University of Michigan for two years and earned his bachelor's degree before coming to Detroit to start work on his MBA in the fall and join the Titans.
Tolomei wrapped up his career with 29 singles wins and added 28 in doubles while Stabley had 11 singles wins and 30 doubles victories. Tolomei played mostly singles this past year and captured three victories in the No. 2 position. Stabley saw the majority of his time came in doubles with
Alex Latosinsky at the No. 2 spot. The duo went 7-9 overall and 3-4 in Horizon League doubles. Streeter helped the Titans in a pair of conference wins earning singles wins over Butler and Valparaiso finishing with seven overall wins this season.
Pablo Nunez capped off 2011-12 with the second best Titan singles mark in conference play going 5-1 and added a 13-7 overall record. He also paired with freshman
Jay Joshi at No. 3 doubles and the two went 10-5, the highest win total from any of UDM's doubles partners.
Chris Cheung and
Mike Basha played at Detroit's No. 1 doubles spot capturing eight wins.
Larry Brown captured his second career dual-match singles win with a straight set, 6-0, 6-4 decision in the No. 6 spot over Samuel McKinney of Chicago State on April 13 in a 6-1 team victory.
In the fall season at the ITA Midwest Regional in October that was hosted by Ohio State in Columbus, Stabley and Nunez advanced to the round of 16 in the main doubles draw. The Titan combination defeated a team from the Wisconsin Badgers in the round of 64 and another from the Illinois State Redbirds in the round of 32 before succumbing to the No. 1 pair in the bracket from Ohio State. The Buckeye combination of Chase Buchanan and Peter Kobelt were the top ranked doubles pairing at the tournament and three matches after playing the Titans, the two won the main doubles draw championship match.
In the coach's postseason awards, Serrano was named the team MVP, Stabley captured the Coach's Award and the Spirit Award went to Nunez. Latosinsky took home the Hardest Worker Award and Basha was the team's Most Improved.
