Duncan Takes Second in 100m at League Championships

WAUWATOSA, Wisc. -- The final day of the Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Wisconsin Lutheran College in Wauwatosa, WI on Sunday saw lightning delay the start by 3.5 hours and the end cut short due to more lightning. The women's team featured Nikia Duncan setting a new personal high placing second in the 100m sprint.
 
Duncan was the second fastest female runner in the Horizon League after it was all said and done as she ran the 100m with a time of 12:08, a new personal record and eight team points.  She was not the only Titan to score in the 100m as Nicole Meisner was fifth timing in at 12.20. Meisner also placed in the 200m coming in third at 25.08 and Brandee Hart also ran in the 200m and was eighth at 25.70.
 
Hart did set a record of her own establishing a new UDM best in the 100m hurdles coming in sixth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.25.
 
The 4x100m relay had a fourth place finish as Meisner, Hart, Whitney Rogers and Duncan had a time of 49.02.
 
Mid-distance running events saw Ciara Curley-Poppe 4:44.36 in the women's 1500m also had a new PR as she was eighth. Olivia Smid placed fifth in the 400m hurdles at 1:06. 82
 
Whitney Rogers was seventh in the triple jump and just of scoring at 11.27m (36-11.75) as she set a new career best.
 
20 of the 21 events were completed on the day as lightning cancelled the final event. During the women's 5000m run, the race was halted midway due to lightning. After delays, it was decided that the remainder of the event would be canceled and final scores would stay at the time of the delay. The men's and women's 4x400m relay was the event that was not completed.
 
The final score on the women's side had Detroit finish in seventh place with 31 points.
