HARTLAND, Mich. (9/10/2012) --
Junior Lindsey Lammers led from start to finish and four Titans were in the top six as the University of Detroit Mercy women's golf team won the Detroit Titans Fall Classic, held at the Hartland Glen Golf Course.

“I couldn't be happier with the way we played,” said head coach Terri Anthony-Ryan. “I was very impressed with Tina (Christina Thorne) and the way she played and Lindsey and Collette were very good getting up and down.”

Detroit posted a 293 on Monday for a two-round total of 594, running away with the title by 25 shots over Youngstown State (619). The 293 was the second best 18-hole score in team history trailing only the 287 it shot in the second round of the event last year, while the 594 was also the second best total just four strokes shy of last year's winning 590 score.

Lammers was able to hold off junior teammate Christina Thorne for the win as she tallied a 74 for a 3-under 143. Her nine birdies in the tournament led the field and she was first in Par 4 scoring (-2, 3.91) and second on the Par 5's (-2, 4.75). The victory was also her fourth in her last five events dating back to last season, with her only blemish in that span falling in a playoff at last season's Fall Classic.

“She might have been tired playing for the first time in a few months, but you just see how much she wants to win out there,” added Ryan.

The triumph was once again amazing since she missed the entire summer amateur season with a wrist injury and then came back after she missed the spring collegiate season with another wrist injury, only to come back once again and win the 2012 Horizon League title on just three days of practice.

Thorne did not make it easy on Lammers going 2-under on the front nine and ending with a career-low 1-under 72 for a career-best 147 card. Her 72 was the best score in the field in round two, while both her round and final score etched her name to fourth place in the all-time UDM record book. Thorne collected six birdies, 24 pars and led the event in Par 5 scoring (-3, 4.63).

Senior Collette Hansen took four shots off her score from round one to post an ever-par 73 - the second best round of the day - taking fourth with a 150. Her final card matched her 36-hole low set at the 2012 Benbow Invitational.

“I can't say enough about the way Christina played,” said Ryan. “Collette is always going to be right there and Olivia came back to play well today after a tough week for her.”

Sophomore Olivia Richards rebounded from yesterday's round with a six-shot improvement, finishing the day with a 1-over 74, and the tournament in sixth place with a 154.  She had the second most birdies on the team with six and was impressive on the Par 5's playing the long holes to a 2-under, 4.75 average.

Senior Allison Sears tied her career low with a 76 to take a share of seventh with a 155 (79, 76), matching another career low set in Hartland in 2011.

As a team, Detroit nearly double the field in birdies finishing with 29, 14 ahead of UIC. UDM also had a tournament-best 111 pars and dominated Par 5's with a -5, 4.88 average.

Detroit will return to action next week as the Titans play in the Youngstown State Invitational. The two-day event will be on Sept. 17-18 at the Links at Firestone Farms in Columbiana, Ohio.
