DETROIT (8/28/2026) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's golf team will have a short trip for its season opener as the Titans will play in the Midwest Match Play.

The event will be held at the par 72, 5,915-yard The Grande Club in  Jackson, Michigan. 

Opening day is Monday, Aug. 31, and will feature the Titans facing Purdue Fort Wayne at 8:00 a.m., and Southern Indiana at 2:00 p.m. The final match will be on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m., against UIC, 

The Titans will go into the season with seven players on their roster, including a few with a lot of tournament experience.

"We have a couple of strong returners and some newcomers that have a lot of talent, so I feel good about the group we have," said Director of Golf Jordan McArleton

Leading the way is senior Gabriella Tapp, who was second on the team with a career-best 80.2 average last year, starting six of the seven events she played in. She had two top-20 efforts and was 12th at the Horizon League Championship with a 237 (79-78-80).

"She is the lone senior, and I have high hopes that she will continue her strong showing from the spring," said coach McArleton. "She has a great attitude and is a strong leader for this program."

Also back are junior Morgan Jones and sophomores Ava Wisinski and Sadie Kondel, who all saw action in the majority of last year's events. 

Wisinski tallied an 83.2 average in four tournaments, registering two top-20 performances. Jones posted an 83.3 average in five tournaments, going for a career-low 248 (81-80-87) and tying for 25th at the league meet, while Kondel played in all seven events, starting four, and finished with an 84.1 mark. 

Also vying for playing time are junior Sophie Hauser, who has played in 12 rounds as a Titan; junior transfer Chloe Fong; and heralded Canadian freshman Kassandra Rombouts.

"Morgan and Sadie won a GAM event this summer, and Kassandra really had a strong summer," said coach McArleton. "I think you will see that we have a lot of balance in this roster."
