DETROIT (1/18/13) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's tennis team will open its home schedule with a match against Texas Christian (TCU) Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m. and then wrap-up the weekend against Toledo at 6:00 p.m.
Both matches will be played at the
Franklin Athletic Club in Southfield.
The Titans opened the dual match season with losses to Western Michigan (1/11) and at #52 Michigan State (1/12).
Alex Latosinsky earned a win at #1 singles at Western Michigan by winning in straight sets 7-6 (7-4), 7-5.
"Coming off the weekend we made some objectives," said head coach
Grant Asher. "The guys worked hard to meet those objectives this week at practice. We feel good about our preperations and we feel good about going into this weekend. If we stay focused on those objectives I think we can come away with a pair of victories this weekend."
TCU returns the 2012 Mountain West Freshman of the Year in Nick Chappell and bring in transfer Arnau Dachs. Dachs is ranked No. 100 by the ITA after winning the singles title at the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational while Chappell recorded four wins at the USTA/ITA Texas Regional Championships, advancing to the semifinals. Overall, seven Frogs have a winning singles record.
Toledo has won two-in-a-row against IUPUI (6-1) and Butler (4-3) after losing its dual match opener (7-0) to Purdue. Thomas Stillman, Grant Adams and Nicholas Wong all went 2-1 in singles over the weekend and the pair of Stillman and Wong went 2-1 in doubles matches.
