CINCINNATI, Ohio (1/18/13) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's tennis team took all three doubles matches, but fell to Xavier, 5-2, on Friday night in Cincinnati in the opener of the dual-match season.

UDM started the evening by taking all three doubles pairings. Elena Strakhova and Irina Slizovskaya took the win in the No. 1 doubles position by a score of 8-4, while Nino Sujashvili and Chloe Karoub were victorious playing at No. 2 doubles, 8-7 (7-5). The Titan sweep ensued as Valery Kulikovskaya and Julia Fernandes won No. 3 doubles with an 8-6 showing.

The Titans then went into singles play and despite some tough setbacks at No. 2 and No. 4, UDM was able to pick up a win in the sixth position as Elena Strakhova downed Lizzie Oosterbaan in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.

Detroit will have more than a week off before its next event as the Titans travel to East Lansing to face Michigan State next Sunday, January 27, at 5:00 p.m.
