SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (2/22/13) –
The Detroit women's tennis team swept the University of Dayton, 7-0, Friday evening at the Franklin Athletic Club.

In singles play, Nino Sujashvili, Irina Slizovskaya, Valery Kulikovskaya and Elena Strakhova all defeated their opponents in straight sets.

Sujashvili won at first singles, 6-0, 6-1, and Slizovskaya blanked her opponent, 6-0, 6-0, at third singles. Kulikovskaya cruised past her opponent, 6-0, 6-1, in the fifth position and Strakhova wrapped-up the sweeps with a 6-0, 6-1 win in the sixth spot.

The Titans won the other two singles matches by coming back to win the third set. Chloe Karoub won her first set at second singles, 6-4, but dropped her next one, 1-6. In the third, Karoub battled to win 10-7 to secure the point for UDM. Julia Fernandes nearly blanked her competitor in the first set, 6-1, but dropped her second set, 4-6, before rebounding with a 10-6 tally in the third set.

In doubles, Fernandes and Strakhova teamed-up to take first doubles, 8-2, while Kulikovskaya and Sujashvili took second doubles, 8-5, and Karoub and Slizovskaya won the last match, 8-3.

UDM will return to action when it hosts Wayne State next Friday, Mar. 1, at the Franklin Athletic Club at 6:00 p.m.
