DETROIT (2/22/2013) -- The University of Detroit Mercy indoor women's track and field team will compete in the Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend hosted by Youngstown State at the Watson and Tressel Training Site starting on Saturday. Live scoring and video of the meet will be available on both days while a live stream on the Horizon League Network on Saturday starts at 2:30 p.m. and on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

"You can't play defense and we're going to do the best we can,” said Guy Murray Director of Track and Field and Cross Country at the University of Detroit Mercy. “If we run, jump, and throw our personal bests, we will be happy but we want to score some significant points from that.”

There are a number of individuals on the women's track and field team on the bubble of being scorers for Detroit and those who have had a good season for the Titans and they will be looked up upon to improve on those numbers and be in the top six in their respective events and score for UDM.

“Saturday is the most important day of the meet for us because you have to make sure you get to the finals on Sunday,” said Murray.

Jasmine Greene has had a stellar year and last year at the HL Indoor Championships, she improved on her time in the 400 meter race to move into fifth place and do better than what she was seeded and this year, she is in the top 10 in the 400 meter race and will need another good day in order to break into the top six and score for the Titans.

The 60 meter sprinters consisting of Nicole Meisner, Allison Garner, and Nikia Duncan will look to perform their best and secure a top-six time in a challenging field while Brandee Hart also has a great chance to score in the 60 meter hurdles for Detroit.

The distance medley relay team broke the old school record on Feb. 2 at Youngstown State with a time of 12:28.21 that bettered the record by .09 seconds and the Titans will look to have a good race.

The pentathlon will feature the Titan trio of Amanda Campbell, Hana Hunt, and freshman Aisha Potts-Tyre. Coach Murray is expecting each athlete to perform their best but is especially intrigued with Potts-Tyre after she improved on her overall total in the pentathlon in her first two competitions.

“The pentathlon is going to be pretty competitive with plenty of good athletes and Aisha continues to improve every week. She has a lot of potential and she has to put it all together and she can do well for us,” said Murray.

In the triple jump, Whitney Rogers will try to improve on her school record when she set a new Titan indoor record back at Youngstown State on Feb. 22. She currently sits in a tie for the sixth-best mark in the conference with her jump of 11.59m/38-0.25 and will need to up that in order to score for Detroit.

“I'm happy with how the season has gone, but we really need to come out and do our best and look for positive results,” added Murray.

Live scoring and video of the both days will be available. Coverage on the Horizon League Network on Saturday starts at 2:30 p.m. and on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
