SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (3/17/13) – The Detroit women's tennis team earned its fifth straight win with a victory over Butler, 6-1, Sunday at the Franklin Athletic Club.
Detroit (5-3) started quickly taking two of three doubles matches to earn the doubles point against the Bulldogs (3-13).
Chloe Karoub and Valery Kulikovskaya won at second doubles (9-7) and
Irina Slizovskaya and
Raina Halabi teamed-up to take the third doubles match (8-2).
Karoub extended her singles winning streak to five matches with a win at second singles (6-2, 6-4).
Julia Fernandes earned a win at third singles (6-3, 6-2) and Slizovskaya was victorious at third singles (6-0, 6-1). Kulikovskaya won at fifth singles (6-2, 6-0) and Strakhova won at sixth singles (6-1, 6-1).
Butler earned its only win at first singles when Caroline Hedrick broke
Nino Sujashvili's four-match winning streak.
The Titans will open Horizon League play when they travel to Ohio to play Youngstown State on Saturday and Cleveland State on Sunday. Both games will be a doubleheader with the men's team.
