YPSILANTI, Mich. (4/20/2013) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's outdoor track and field team was in Ypsilanti on Friday and Saturday, which was a little bit colder than the 75 degree weather a week ago in California, to compete in the Eastern Michigan University Twilight that had
Louisa Coppola have another great run in the 3000 meters placing third setting a personal best.
Over the two days of competition, there was a wind and temperatures hovering around the 40 degree mark but Coppola had a third place finish in the 3000m, in a field of 22, with a time of 10:17.36 to become the new No. 7 all-time Titan record holder. Last week in Sacramento, she was third in the 5000 meters with a time of 17:36.62 and she made the No. 2 spot on the Titan all-time list and then nearly doubled up with another PR in the 1500m.
Coppola was not the only Titan to set a PR in the 3000m as
Rachel Hofsess (11:02.23) and
Torrie Eger (11:12.40) also had personal bests.
A trio of distance runners all set personal records in the 1500 meter race as
Sarah Martinez was 17
th with a time of 4:54.62 and
Sara Taylor (4:56.09) and
Haley Morairty (5:10.24) all set new career bests as well.
Allyson Koglin had a discus throw of 41.17m/135-0 to set the new No. 7 mark on the Titan all-time list. She was also fifth in the hammer throw with a toss of 44.29m/145-3. Also in the discus,
Lauren Berlin had a throw of 35.19m/115-5 to set a new personal best.
Aisha Potts-Tyre moved into the No. 5 spot on the Titan all-time list in the 100 meter hurdles at 15.37.
The 4x400 meter relay team of
Alani Letang, Potts-Tyre,
Allison Garner, and Morairty set a UDM rookie record with a time of 4:17.44.
The Titans competed at Rynearson Stadium where Detroit will host the 2013 Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 3-5.
Teams from Adrian, Concordia (Mich.), Hillsdale, IUPUI, Macomb Community College, Marygrove, Michigan, Oakland, Wayne State, Western Michigan, as well as Eastern Michigan were all participating in the two-day event.
Detroit will have one more week of preparation before the Horizon League Championships. In the final competition next weekend, the Titans will separate and head to different meets at Hillsdale, Central Michigan, and Drake.
