Tennis Doubleheader Scheduled to Start at 8pm Friday

DETROIT (1/23/2014) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's and women's tennis team will host its first doubleheader of the season on Friday evening at the official indoor home of the Detroit Titans at the Franklin Athletic Club in Southfield. The men's team will match-up with Duquesne at 8pm followed by the women's team who will face Chicago State at 8:30pm. The women will also play at Dayton on Sunday at 3pm.

It will be the home opener for the men's team after three road matches to start the year. Detroit played at Western Michigan, Michigan State, and Ball State and came out on the wrong end of each match falling by a 7-0 score in each contest. The last match for the men was at Ball State on Jan. 18. The Titans were 5-4 at home in the 2013 dual-match season and will be looking to continue to use the home advantage in 2014. The next home date for the men's squad will come on Feb. 7 vs. IPFW.

The UDM women will be facing Chicago State and this will be the second home match for the women and third overall of the dual-match season. The Titans fell 5-2 to Eastern Michigan at home on Jan. 17 and then fell at Michigan State on Jan. 19 by a 6-1 margin. In those two matches, freshman Anna Davydova played in the first two singles matches of her collegiate career and she captured wins in both as she played at the No. 4 position.

The next match for the men will be on Feb. 1 as the Titans will be in Rockford, Illinois to face Southern Illinois at 11am while the women will play at Butler on Feb. 2 at 10am.
