FORT WAYNE, Ind. (1/25/2014) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's indoor track and field team competed in the IPFW Quadrangular at the Hillard Gates Sports Center and the Titans went 3-0 in separate dual meets.
 
After snowy conditions delayed the start of the competition by an hour, the Titans posted three scored dual-meet victories. UDM posted a 100-52 score over Xavier (Ohio), a 110-18 total over IUPUI, and an 89-55 win over Butler.
 
There were a plethora of highlights littered throughout the day from running events to jumps and distance runs and throws, the men's squad was able to come out on top in more than a few events.
 
It was all Titans in the weight throw as UDM finished 1-2-3. Senior Eric Lewis was first with a mark of 18.47m, junior Colin Cashner was second at 16.29m which moved him into the No. 7 spot on UDM's all-time list and the tenth Titan to throw beyond 50 feet. A third Titan thrower in sophomore Jake Millyard set a personal best with a throw of 14.73m for third and the No. 12 spot on the Titan all-time list. Lewis also earned a second win throwing the shot put a distance of 13.41m and Millyard set another PR throwing 12.79 in that event.
 
In the 60 meters, freshman Brandon Wilks ran 7.01 in the preliminaries, .01 off his personal best, and posted a time of 7.03 in the finals to place first among the field of eight. Wilks also ran in the 200 meters coming in second at 22.69.
 
In the mile run, redshirt freshman Austin Wigent was third with a new personal best of 4:20.23 which moved him into the No. 15 position on the Titan all-time list while junior Ryan Hofsess was close behind in fifth place at 4:25.91.
 
In the 400 meters, freshman Khalil Parris came out on top with a time of 50.19 and sophomore Colton Wirgau was third at 51.55.
 
In the 800 meters, sophomore Joshua Carolin was second with a mark of 1:58.51.
 
In the 3000 meters, freshman Ryan Leahy and sophomore Derek Gielarowski both had quality runs for Detroit. Leahy's time of 8:41.60 moved him into the No. 7 spot on the Titan all-time record list and Gielarowski's mark of 8:47.54 was good for No. 13 on the Titan all-time list and third place in the field of 13 runners.
 
In the long jump, freshman Ilia Panev made his collegiate debut in the event with a leap of 6.21m which was good for second in the field of seven.
 
The next scheduled meet for Detroit is scheduled for Jan. 31 as the Titans will participate in the Findlay Open in Findlay, Ohio.
