URBANA, Illinois (10/18/2014) --
The third day of the ITA Midwest Regional Championships saw the first round of main draw singles get under way on Saturday as junior Irina Slizovskaya was the lone representative for the Titans at the Atkins Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Illinois.

Seeing her first action in singles in the tournament due to the automatic bid she received, advancing her all the way to the main draw, Slizovskaya was matched up against DePaul's Jasmin Kling, a former BIG EAST Freshman of the Year and All-BIG EAST last season, who has been ranked in the top 100 by the ITA.

Making her second-straight trip to the main draw, Slizovskaya came out looking for the upset, but was downed by Kling, 6-1, 6-2.

In a consolation match in singles, junior Valeryia Kulikovskaya went head-to-head against conference rival Annina Brendel of Youngstown State, but came up on the wrong side of a 6-2, 6-4 decision.

The event concludes the fall season for Detroit as the Titans will now get ready for the spring duel season, which will begin in January. UDM will release its spring schedule in the near future.
