Spring Break Trip Sees Titans Fall to Davidson in Boca Raton

BOCA RATON, Fla. (3/3/2014) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's tennis team took a trip south over spring break and played a neutral site match at Lynn University against the Davidson Wildcats on Tuesday. The Titans won the doubles point but fell 4-1.

Detroit started with a pair of wins in the two doubles matches that were played. Senior Julia Fernandes and sophomore Irina Slizovskaya won 8-2 in their match at No. 2 doubles and sophomore Valery Kulikovskaya and freshman Anna Davydova won at No. 3 doubles  by an 8-3 score to secure the first point of the match for Detroit. 

The Titans played three of six singles matches but were unable to take home a win. Davidson took its fourth point via default at No. 6 singles.

Slizovskaya played at No. 1 singles but found herself in a tough match falling 6-0, 6-1. Fernandes was in her match until the end but fell 6-1, 7-5 at No. 2 singles. Kulikovskaya fell at No. 3 singles 6-4, 6-1 and the match was clinched for the Wildcats.

The next contest for Detroit will be the start of Horizon League play with the first test a pair of Wisconsin road matches. The Titans will match-up at Green Bay on March 22 and follow that with a match on March 23 vs. Milwaukee.
