DETROIT (4/12/14) – Sophomore Christa McGahuey hit her team leading sixth home run and junior Kayla Kostich recorded three hits but it wasn't enough as the University of Detroit Mercy softball team dropped both games to Wright State on Saturday at Buysse Ballpark.

Wright State (9-25, 5-4 HL) took the first game 6-0, before winning the nightcap 10-1.

In game one, the Raiders jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after a pair of runs in the first inning followed by a solo home run from Angie Clark in the second. Kostich tripled with two outs in the bottom half of the first inning, but was left stranded after Katy Severson grounded out to the shortstop.

Detroit (4-29, 0-5 HL) had another good chance to score in the bottom of the third inning after back-to-back singles from Julia Maksym and Kostich, but the Titans again left runners on base as the Raiders held on to a 3-0 lead.

Junior pitcher Kat Hoffman kept Detroit in the game by keeping the Raiders scoreless for the next couple of innings, before they added two more runs off an error in the fifth inning and one more in the sixth.

Altogether Hoffman finished throwing 6.1 innings with four earned runs, four strikeouts and no walks. Her counterpart Krystian DeWitt threw a complete game shutout with 11 strikeouts.

In the nightcap, Wright State jumped out to an early 7-0 lead, before McGahuey hit her sixth long ball of the season in the bottom of the fourth to make it 7-1. The Titans then loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth inning, with a chance to inch closer, but Montana Wear was able to get Lauren Weldy to strikeout swinging on a 3-2 pitch to keep the Raiders lead at six.

Weldy, who came on in relief for Maksym was able to keep Wright State scoreless for two innings, before the Raiders added three more runs in the sixth inning, including Clark's second homer of the day to make the final 10-1.

Detroit will conclude its series with Wright State on Sunday (April 13) with the first pitch scheduled for 12:00 p.m. ET at Buysse Ballpark.
