Box Score DETROIT (5/4/14) – The University of Detroit Mercy softball team dropped its season finale to Youngstown State, 8-0, on Sunday at Buysse Ballpark.
Detroit (7-42, 3-16) honored its seven seniors

Sara Cupp,
Alyssa Gietl,
Hannah Klenk,
Julia Maksym,
Karyn McCarty, and
Katelyn Steffel, with Bondy throwing the ceremonial first pitch to Cupp.
Youngstown State (29-22, 11-8) was led by Miranda Castiglione who finished 3-for-4 at the plate with three home runs and seven RBI, while Casey Crozier pitched five scoreless innings only giving up two hits while striking out one for her 18th win of the season.
Castiglione got things started early with a two-run homer in the first inning, before adding a three-run blast in the second and another two-run bomb in the fourth inning to make the score 7-0.
The Penguins Haley Knight brought home the final run of the game in the fourth inning with an RBI single to centerfield.
Seniors Klenk and Maksym were the only Titans to record a hit as both finished 1-for-2 at the plate.
Maksym started in the circle for Detroit and gave up five runs – two homers to Castiglione – before freshman
Lauren Weldy pitched the final three innings giving up three runs while striking out three.
Junior
Kayla Kostich finished the season hitting safely in 18 of the final 20 games and led the Titans in hitting with a .331 batting average. Sophomore
Christa McGahuey led Detroit with 10 home runs and 22 RBI, while also hitting .308 for the season.
