Roby Wong each tallied seven victories Sunday as the University of Detroit Mercy women's fencing squad competed at the Vassar Duals. The dual meet was the second of the season for the Titans after Detroit participated at the Army Duals on Saturday in West Point, N.Y.
Detroit faced five squads on Sunday, earning a 1-4 record overall. The Titans tallied a 13-11 victory over NJIT for their win. Detroit dropped duals against Vassar (7-20), Sacred Heart (3-24), Tufts (2-25) and Yale (1-26).
Lang competed in both the sabre and the foil for the Titans on Sunday. She earned all of her bout victories in the sabre, going 7-5 in the weapon. She finished 3-0 against NJIT as she helped lead the sabre team to a 5-4 win over the Highlanders. Lang also went 3-0 against Vassar and scored another victory against Sacred Heart.
Sophomore
McKenna Brohl earned four victories in the sabre for the Titans as the weapon, tallying two against NJIT and single wins against Vassar and Sacred Heart.
Wong finished the day with a record of 7-8 to lead the Detroit epee team. She went 3-0 in Detroit's 6-3 epee victory over NJIT and was consistent throughout the day, notching single victories in each dual match. Senior
Kaylah Berndt earned four bout wins for the Titans. She went 2-1 in the team's win against NJIT. Freshman
Erica Burgess also picked up a win against NJIT, one of two bout victories for the rookie on the day.
The Titans return competitively on Sunday, Jan. 25 for the UDM Invitational at Calihan Hall. It's the lone home meet of the season for the fencers.
