Anna Davydova won her singles and doubles match and the Titans had an early lead, but Ball State was able to control the singles portion en route to a 5-2 win over the University of Detroit Mercy women's tennis team on Sunday at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
Detroit (0-2) regrouped from its season-opening loss to No. 20 Notre Dame on Saturday by taking the doubles point over Ball State (1-0).
Juniors
Irina Slizovskaya and
Nino Sujashvili won at top doubles, 6-4, over Toni Ormond and Courtney Wild, while Davydova and sophomore
Nynke Van Der Goot defeated Bethany Moore and Rosalinda Calderon, 6-4, at No. 3.
The Titans then pushed three singles matches to a third set with Davydova leading the way with a come-from-behind 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, victory over Ormond at No. 4.
Slizovskaya was edged at No. 2, 4-6, 6-0, 6-2, while Van Der Goot fell, 2-6, 6-0, 6-4, in the sixth position.
The Titans will return to action next weekend with a pair of road matches as the red, white and blue square off against Bowling Green on Friday, Jan. 23, and Eastern Michigan on Saturday, Jan. 24.
