FORT WAYNE, Ind. (1/23/2015) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's track and field team stayed unbeaten at the IPFW Duals in the four-year history, earning wins in all five duals Friday to improve its four-year record to 16-0 at the meet.
The Titans dominated on the day, earning convincing wins over all five of the other squads. Detroit defeated host IPFW (91-58), IUPUI (99-23), Butler (93-36), and Horizon League foes Oakland (90-48) and Valparaiso (93-55). Detroit won six individual events on the day.
Senior
Shannon Marchant out-paced the 14-member field in the 800-meter run. Marchant won the race with a time of 2:21.11, more than two seconds better than second place. Freshman
Elizabeth Mullen was fourth with a time of 2:24.72, and sophomore
Samantha Zakalowski placed sixth at 2:27.23.
Senior
Louisa Coppola won the 3,000-meters for the second time this season. She won the race by more than two seconds with a time of 10:24.02. Freshman
Taylor Smith finished in fourth (10:39.80) with a season-best time, while senior
Zeinab Baydoun placed eighth in 10:47.72.
Junior
Aisha Potts-Tyre earned the victory in the 60-meter hurdles for Detroit. She out-ran the field with a time of 9.20 to earn the win by 0.31 seconds over second place. Senior
Hana Hunt placed fourth in a time of 9.76, while sophomore
Natalie Peterson claimed seventh.
Potts-Tyre captured two total event wins on the day, earning the victory in the long jump with a leap of 5.22 meters (17'1.5"). Junior
Alexandra Lindig placed fourth in the long jump at 4.82 meters (15'9.75"), while Hunt was sixth in 4.64 meters (15'2.75").
Sophomore thrower
Ashley Bayles won the shot put with a heave of 13.00 meters (42'7.75") and placed second in the weight throw with a PR of 15.04 meters (49'4.25"). The Titans swept the top four spots in the shot put as senior
Lauren Berlin finished second (11.72 meters/38'5.5"), freshman
Delaney O'Rourke placed third with a throw of 11.36 meters (37'3.25") and Potts-Tyre was fourth by reaching 11.07 meters (36'4"). Berling and O'Rouke additionally placed fourth and fifth in the weight throw.
The Titans placed first in the 4x400 meter relay, defeating Oakland by .60 seconds. The quartet of sophomore

Alani Letang and Marchant posted a time of 4:01.90.
Detroit took two of the top three spots in the mile run with Coppola placing second in a time of 5:10.84. Freshman teammate
Sydnie Fetherolf was just behind in third place with a PR of 5:11.09, and senior
Sara Taylor made it three in the top 10 for the Titans, placing ninth with a time of 5:26.45.
The Titans also had two of the top three finishers in the 400-meter dash. Letang ran a time of 1:00.54 to finish second, while Dent placed third behind her teammate with a time of 1:00.62. Hunt finished seventh in the 400m with a time of 1:02.15.
Potts-Tyre competed in five events on the night, including participating for the first time in the triple jump. She finished second in the event by reaching 10.46 meters (34'4") and also set a PR in the high jump by tallying 1.50 meters (4'11"). Lindig also competed in the triple jump for the Titans, placing third with a jump of 10.17 meters (33'4.5").
Freshman
Sydney Shaw earned a PR in the 5,000-meters, placing fifth with a time of 10:05.78.
Freshman sprinter
Brogan Holmes had a pair of top-three finishes, finishing third in both the 60-meter (8.17) and 200-meter dash (26.75), and classmate
Alyson Hamilton finished fifth in the 60m (8.27) and sixth in the 200m (27.33).
The Titans return to action on Saturday, Jan. 31, at the SVSU Invitational at Saginaw Valley State.
