ANN ARBOR, Mich. (10/24/15) – Senior Valeryia Kulikovskaya earned two hard-fought victories in the ITA Midwest Regional Qualifier round to highlight the University of Detroit Mercy women's tennis team's matches in Ann Arbor on Thursday, before juniors Anna Davydova and Nynke Van Der Groot advanced to the second round of the doubles main draw on Saturday.

Kulikovskaya breezed through a match against Chicago State's Marnie Perez-Ochoa, 6-2 and 6-2, before outlasting Western Michigan's Denise Azcui, 7-5, 0-6 and 7-6(7), in a dramatic three-set thriller. One win away from advancing to the main draw, Kulikovskaya found herself on the wrong side of a three-set decision, falling to Grace Summers of Eastern Illinois, 4-6, 6-1 and 6-2.

Davydova and Van Der Groot topped a pair from the University of Illinois-Chicago to advance to the second round in the doubles main draw, before falling to Lancranjan and Cozac from DePaul in the second round, 8-2.

In singles on Thursday, Davydova gave Wisconsin's Lauren Burich everything she could handle, but fell in the first round, 7-6 and 7-6. Senior Irina Slizovskaya also fell in the first round, 6-3 and 6-4, to Ariadna Blinova of Akron. Van Der Groot also suffered defeat, falling to Athena Truilloit of Michigan State, 6-0 and 6-2.

In the consolation bracket, Davydova cruised to a 6-0 and 6-2 win over Martina Zerbrola of Akron, while Slizovskaya fell to Ohio State's Andrea Bellinger, 6-1 and 6-4.

Slizovskaya and Kulikovskaya also paired up to play in the doubles tournament, but fell in a tight match with Iden and Foster of Eastern Illinois in the first round of the main draw. The pair moved to the consolation bracket, where they edged Ohio State Buckeyes O'Neill and Ballinger, 8-7 (2).

With the result, Detroit wraps up the fall season and will begin offseason workouts before the spring season.
