EVANSTON, Ill. (2/2/2015) -- University of Detroit Mercy senior
Katie Lang tallied 11 victories Sunday to lead the women's fencing squad in the second day of the Northwestern Duals, which were held on the campus of Northwestern University on Feb. 1.
Detroit competed against eight teams Sunday in the second day of the duals. The Titans were facing several of the top fencing squads in the nation, including three top-10 ranked teams. UDM competed against the No. 3-ranked team in Princeton, as well as No. 9 Northwestern, No. 10 Temple, No. 13 Stanford, No. 17 UC San Diego and No. 18 North Carolina.
Lang led the team with 11 wins in the sabre. She posted a 3-0 record against Cal Tech and earned multiples victories against UC San Diego as well as Lawrence. She also earned victories against North Carolina, Temple, Stanford and Farleigh Dickerson. Sophomore
McKenna Brohl earned six victories for Detroit in the sabre. She earned two victories against No. 13 Stanford and also recorded multiple bout wins against Lawrence.
Detroit earned 11 victories in the epee over the course of the day. Senior
Kaylah Berndt led the Titans with five wins in the weapon, while junior
Roby Wong tallied four victories and freshman
Erica Burgess earned two wins for the Titans.
The Titans return to their dual schedule Saturday, Feb. 7 at the Notre Dame Duals in South Bend, Ind.
