SOUTH BEND, Ind. (2/9/2015) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's fencing squad closed out the dual portion of its 2015 schedule on Saturday, competing at the Notre Dame Duals, hosted by the University of Notre Dame.
The Titans finished 0-4 as a squad and fenced against the No. 2-ranked team in the nation in the host Fighting Irish, falling 26-1 to Notre Dame. UDM also dropped dual matches to Wayne State (23-4), Lawrence (17-10) and Cleveland State (21-6).
Junior
Roby Wong led the Titans with a 6-6 record in the epee. She earned multiple bout victories against Wayne State, Lawrence and Cleveland State. Senior
Kaylah Berndt earned four victories on the day, earning three of them in the epee for Detroit. She also earned a perfect 3-0 mark against CSU.
Senior
Katie Lang led the Titans in the sabre with a 4-5 record and also earned a bout victory against the Fighting Irish.
McKenna Brohl earned a pair of wins in the epee for Detroit.
Foilist
Christina Powers returned from injury to earn a bout victory, while freshmen
Erica Burgess and
Nicole Fitch also earned single victories on Saturday for the Titans.
The Detroit men's and women's fencing teams return competitvely next weekend for the 2015 Junior Olympic Fencing Championships, which begin Friday, Feb. 13 in Richmond, Va.
