BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The University of Detroit women's tennis team kicked off the 2015-16 season with a strong showing at the Bowling Green State University Invitational over the weekend.
 
The two-day tournament, which began Friday and ended Saturday, featured Bowling Green, Chicago State, Evansville, Illinois-Chicago, IUPUI, Toledo and Wright State.
 
The Titans went 6-6 overall in singles, led by senior Valeryia Kulikovskaya and junior Nynke Van Der Goot, who each went 2-1 in their matches. Kulikovskaya finished in second place in the second singles flight, while Van Der Goot posted a third place finish in the fourth flight.
 
Detroit went 4-1 in doubles, led by the junior duo of Anna Davydova and Van Der Goot, who racked up three consecutive victories to win Flight 2 of doubles.
 
Flight 1 Singles

• Davydova defeats Carynne Lloyd of Chicago State: 6-2, 6-4
• Sidnay Huck of Toledo defeats Davydova: 4-6, 7-6 (5), 10-7
• Jackie Altansrnzi of Illinois-Chicago defeats Davydova: 4-6, 7-5, 10-6
• Davydova finishes the flight with a 1-2 overall singles record, good for fourth place in Flight 1.

 
Flight 2 Singles

• Kulikovskaya defeats Karoline Haller of Wright State: 5-7, 6-2, 10-8
• Kulikovskaya defeats Marina Darzyan of Evansville: 6-1, 6-0 (4)
• Paula Comella of Bowling Green defeats Kulikovskaya: 6-2, 6-0
• Kulikovskaya advances to the finals of Flight 2, but settles for second place after finishing 2-1 in singles.

 
Flight 3 Singles

• Irina Slizovskaya falls to Emily Mazzola of Toledo: 6-4, 6-0
• Taylor Culbertson of Wright State defeats Slizovskaya: 6-3, 5-7, 10-6
• Slizovskaya defeats Samantha Mayer of IUPUI: 7-5, 6-2
• Slizovskaya finished with a 1-2 record in Flight 3 of singles, good for seventh place.

 
Flight 4 Singles

• Van Der Goot defeats Leshia Gadacz of Chicago State: 6-2, 6-2
• Elaine Cloern of Wright State defeats Van Der Goot: 6-3, 7-5
• Van Der Goot defeats Mariella Pessina of IUPUI: 6-1, 6-1
• Van Der Goot claimed third place in Flight 4 after finishing with a 2-1 record in singles.

 
Flight 1 Doubles

• Kulikovskaya and Slizovskaya fall to Lavernchuk and Mayer of IUPUI: 6-4
• Kulikovskaya and Slizovskaya defeat Gadacz and Pangestu of Chicago State: 6-0
• The third doubles match of the tournament was cancelled, leaving Kulikovskaya and Slizovskaya with a 1-1 record in Flight 1 doubles.

 
Flight 2 Doubles

• Van Der Goot and Davydova defeat Lloyd and Perez-Ochoa of Chicago State: 6-4
• Van Der Goot and Davydova defeat Verstrepen and Turner of Wright State: 6-1
• Van Der Goot and Davydova defeat Mazzola and Bowman of Toledo: 6-4
• The Titans wins by Van Der Goot and Davydova give the Detroit-duo a first-place finish in Flight 2 doubles.
