Day One Interview With Heath
ROCHESTER, Mich. (9/29/2015) -- Junior
Sarah Thompson recorded her 14th career top-20 performances and junior
Sarah Montone claimed her second career top-20 effort as the University of Detroit Mercy women's golf team wrapped up play at the Golden Grizzlies Invitational on Tuesday.
Thompson ended the event with a 160 (76-84), just one shot out of the top 10 and three off the top five. Montone carded a 165 (86-79), including the best round on the day for the Titans shooting a 79.
Freshman
Erica Heath was just outside the top 20 taking 22nd with a 167 (80-87), while junior
Brooke Sharpe and freshman
Katelyn Henry shared 30th with a 172.
As a team, the Titans were sixth totaling a 671 (334-337).
UDM returns to action next week, Oct. 5-6, when it compete in the Rocket Classic, hosted by Toledo.

DEBUTS
THOMPSON'S TOP 20
- Sarah Thompson recorded her 14th career top-20 finish and her second this season.
- She also tied for the team lead with four birdies and was second on the squad knocking in 16 pars.
CALM AND COOL MONTONE
- Sarah Montone improved her round card by seven shots as she finished with a 7-over 79 for the best team score on Tuesday and the second best score on the squad in the tournament.
- She also topped the team with 20 pars.
- With a 20th-place finish, it was her best since tying for 14th at last year's IPFW Spring Classic.
HEATH JUST MISSES THE TOP 20
- Freshman Erica Heath just missed her second top-20 mark of the fall as she was 22nd, just two shots shy of the top-20 players.
- Her four birdies were tied for the most on the team and the fourth most in the event.
LAIRD'S CAREER LOW
- Molly Laird made just one appearance last season, but she took four shots off her 36-hole career low tallying a 179 in tying for 42nd.
THE LONGER THE BETTER
- Detroit tied for the third best mark in the field on the Par 5's totaling a 5.32 average.
- UDM also had the fourth-most pars with nine in the tournament.
UP NEXT
- Detroit will have a quick turnaround as the Titans head to Ohio to play in the Rocket Classic, hosted by Toledo at the Par 72, 5,884-yard Catawba Island Club in Port Clinton, Ohio.
