Men’s Track and Field Concludes Action at Bob Eubanks Open

ALLENDALE, MICH. (1/15/16) – The University of Detroit Mercy men's track and field team opened the 2016 indoor season at the Bob Eubanks Open on Friday and has plenty of bright spots to build upon heading forward.
 
The meet, hosted by Grand Valley State University, featured 16 strong schools from across the Great Lakes and Midwest regions.
 
Junior Ilia Panev reached the 60m hurdles finals with a speedy 8.45 mark, just off his personal record. Meanwhile, classmate Jacob Whitting ran a 8.79. Panev backed up his performance with a 8.40 in the finals, good for eighth-place.
 
Super-sophomore Ben Kendell and senior Derek Gielarowski each set personal records in the mile run, with Kendell coming across the line in 4:19.14 and Gielarowski finishing with a time of 4:25.64. Kendell's pace was the fourth-best mark among the 48 student-athletes participating in the event, while Gielarowski checked in in 11th.
 
Senior Austin Wigent and Ryan Hofsess weren't far behind, recording times of 4:29.06 and 4:31.79, respectively.
 
In the 600m run, Khalil Parris set a personal record and improved his all-time Detroit mark to 1:19.24, while finishing second in the event.
 
Anton Webster tied the sixth-best all-time Titan mark in the 600m with a time of 1:22.20 and came in in ninth place.
 
Zach Arnold finished 12th in the 300m dash with a time of 36.46.
 
Colin Creagh set a personal record with an 8:44.33 mark in the 3,000m, while Charlie Felton and Colin Hooker each set personal records as well, clocking in at 9:07.20 and 9:18.31, respectively. Cody Smith continued the trend, also setting his personal record with a 9:23.72 mark.
 
In the 4x400m relay, the Detroit combo of Zach Arnold, Webster, Panev and Parris clocked in at 3:19.42, the third-best mark in the field.
 
Colin Cashner set a personal record in the weight throw, recording a distance of 19.05m, good for seventh-place in a loaded field.
 
The Titans take a weeklong break before returning to action Saturday, Jan. 23 at the IPFW Quadrangular in Fort Wayne, Ind.
