Women’s Tennis Heads to Western Michigan Friday

DETROIT (1/21/16) – The University of Detroit Mercy women's tennis team looks to rebound from a season-opening loss with a trip to Western Michigan on Friday.

The Titans square off with the Broncos on Friday at 1 p.m. from West Hills Athletic Club in Kalamazoo, Mich.

Detroit (0-1) fell in its season-opener to Bowling Green State University, 5-2, last weekend. Meanwhile, WMU opened the spring season with back-to-back dominant victories over Horizon League foes Oakland and Valparaiso, before suffering its first setback at No. 33 Notre Dame on Tuesday.

Juniors Anna Davydova and Nynke Van Der Goot each picked up singles victories to highlight last weekend's action between Detroit and BGSU. In doubles, the duo of junior Viktoria Laskutova and freshman Iris Thioux picked up the Titans' lone victory.

Familiar Faces
Detroit returns six of seven players from last year's record-setting team. A season ago, the Titans set a school-record with 16 wins as they went 16-9 overall, 7-1 in the Horizon League, and finished runner-up in the HL Championship.

The Titans feature a roster full of upperclassmen, with three seniors and three juniors. Five of the six have earned all-conference honors at some point in their collegiate careers, setting the bar very high heading into the 2016 season.

2016 HORIZON LEAGUE PRESEASON POLL
The Titans were selected third and received one first-place vote in the 2016 Horizon League Preseason Poll, as voted on by the league's coaches, the conference office announced Friday afternoon. The top-six teams in the HL standings will make the Horizon League Tournament, hosted by the University of Michigan in 2016.
