DETROIT (1/30/16) – The University of Detroit Mercy men's track and field team wrapped up action at the Jet's Pizza Invitational hosted by Saginaw Valley State University on Saturday.

Joining Detroit and Saginaw Valley State at the SVSU Fieldhouse were teams from Oakland, Siena Heights, Central Michigan, Cleary, Aquinas, Macomb, Davenport, Alma, Ferris State and Wayne State.

The Titans picked up a victory in the 4x400-meter relay, with Zach Arnold, Joshua Carolin, Brandon Wilks and Khalil Parris clocking in at 3:18.96. The rookie team of Anton Webster, Andrew Heitzhaus, Carlton Sims and Colin Hooker finished the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:28.35.

In the distance medley relay, seniors Ryan Hofsess, Carolin, Colton Wirgau and Austin Wigent finished second with a mark of 10:17.85. The sophomore group of Charlie Felton, Zach Arnold, Max Rogowski and Ben Kendell finished just behind in third at 10:26.53.

Jacob Whitting set a personal record with a 20'1" (6.13m) leap in the long jump, finishing in ninth place. Whitting reached the 60-meter hurdles final after finishing with a personal record 8.51 in the preliminaries. He finished sixth in the finals with a mark of 8.56.

In the 400-meter dash, junior Khalil Parris became just the third Titan to break the 48-second threshold indoors, clocking in at 47.91 to finish second in the event. Anton Webster set a personal record with a 49.78 mark and finished ninth, followed closely by Carlton Sims in 10th at 49.82, giving Detroit three in the top ten.

Junior Brandon Wilks returned to action in the 60-meter dash and advanced to the finals after a 7.01 in the preliminary round. A false start in the finals cost Wilks a shot at a place, though his 7.01 would have been good for fourth.

Derek Gielarowski and Colin Creagh each set personal records in the 3,000-meter run, with Gielarowksi crossing the line in 8:35.80 and Creagh finishing in 8:37.63. The marks for Gielarowski and Creagh are the seventh- and eighth-best marks all-time for Detroit.

Hooker finished in 11th of 47 competitors in the mile run with a time of 4:28.84. Freshman Nicholas Scalzi finished 13th out of 33 in the shot put with a toss of 13.53 meters.

The Titans are back in action Saturday, Feb. 5 at the Youngstown State Invitational.
