Complete ResultsKALAMAZOO, Mich. (2/14/16) – The University of Detroit Mercy men's tennis team fell on the road to Western Michigan University, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon from the West Hills Athletic Club.
The Broncos took control early with a clean sweep in doubles and continued the momentum into singles, where WMU took five of six matches from Detroit.
Freshman
Adam Zychowicz played well from the fourth position for the Titans and recorded a hard fought three set win. Zychowicz outlasted Eric Olivarez from WMU, 7-6 (8-6) in the first, before Olivarez roared back with a 6-1 win in the second. It was Zychowicz who had the last laugh, however, as the freshman picked up a 10-8 win and earned the point for UDM.
Junior
Kacper Stelmaszak also took the Broncos to three sets from the fifth position after bouncing back from a 6-1 loss in the first set to win the second, 6-2. Stelmaszak dropped the third, 10-4 as WMU picked up it's fifth singles point.
The win improves Western Michigan's record to 5-3 on the season, while Detroit falls to 2-7 with the loss.
The Titans take a two-week break and return to action Saturday, Feb. 27 against Northwestern (Ohio) from the Franklin Athletic Club.
