Complete ResultsTOLEDO (2/28/16) – The University of Detroit Mercy women's tennis team fell in a hard fought match at Toledo on Sunday afternoon, 5-2.
The Titans' No. 3 doubles team of
Viktoria Laskutova and
Nino Sujashvili put up a battle and only trailed 5-3 before their match went unfinished. Detroit dropped the doubles point, losing their first two doubles matches.
Anna Davydova bounced back from her doubles setback with a tremendous singles effort, winning her first set 6-4 and dominating the second set 6-1 for a straight-sets win.
Iris Thioux picked up the Titans' only other victory of the day, taking a 6-2 decision in her first set and led 2-0 in set two before the opponent retired.
Detroit senior Irina Silzovskaya completed the only three-set match of the day. Silzovskaya started strong, taking the first set 6-4, but could not keep the momentum, dropping the second set 6-2 and ultimately losing a tough tie-breaker, 10-3.
With Sunday's loss, Detroit falls to 1-4 on the season, while Toledo improves their season record to 4-5.
The Titans will return to Ohio in just under two weeks for their next contest on March 12 at Akron.
