Detroit Edges Chicago State, 4-3

DETROIT (3/13/16) – The University of Detroit Mercy men's tennis team slipped past the Chicago State Cougars, 4-3, on Sunday night from the Franklin Athletic Club.
 
The Titans rallied from an early deficit to take four of the six singles matches to earn the victory after falling in doubles, 2-1.
 
Junior Patryk Koscielski cruised to a 6-1, 6-4 victory from the top line, followed by sophomore Nathan Ponton with a 6-2, 6-2 win from the second position.
 
The Cougars picked up wins from the third and fourth spots and Detroit evened the match with a win from the sixth position. Freshman Adam Zychowicz secured the win with hard fought wins of 7-6 and 6-2 from the fifth line.
 
The Titans snapped a four-game winless streak with the victory and improved to 3-9 this spring. Meanwhile, Chicago State dropped to 2-11 overall with the loss.
 
Detroit returns to the court on Saturday, Mar. 19 at Purdue. The match is set to begin at 6 p.m. from West Lafayette, Ind. and will be the Titans' final non-conference matchup before the start of Horizon League play on Mar. 27.
