MOBILE, Ala. (3/26/2016) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's golf team celebrated Easter Weekend with two wins as the Titans recorded individual and team titles at the Robert Trent Jones Challenge in Mobile, Alabama, this weekend.
The event was a dual with Dayton as the Titans beat the Flyers, 636-646 at the Par 72, 6,157-yard Crossings Course at Magnolia Grove Golf Course.
"I was happy with the way we played on a tough course that has hosted LPGA events," said head coach
Terri Anthony-Ryan. "All the girls lowered their scores from a few weeks ago as well as from round one to round two."
Detroit took a 10-shot lead after round one with a 314 and then totaled a 322 in Saturday afternoon's second round.
Three Titans finished among the top four led by junior
Sarah Thompson's 153 (75-78). She was leading by three strokes after starting with a 4-over 75 and tallied a 78 on Saturday for her first career victory.
Junior
Sarah Montone claimed third with a 159 (80-79), while junior
Brooke Sharpe was right behind her with a 161 (78-83), including tying her career low with a 78 on the opening 18.
The Titans will continue a busy few weeks when they compete in the IPFW Spring Classic next week, April 3-4, at Pine Valley Country Club in Fort Wayne.
