Men’s Tennis Falls in Horizon League Opener At Green Bay

GREEN BAY, WIS. (3/27/16) – The University of Detroit Mercy men's tennis team dropped its Horizon League opener against Green Bay, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon from Western Racquet & Fitness Center.
 
The Titans (3-11, 0-1 HL) dropped the doubles point, 2-1, before the Phoenix (8-5, 1-0 HL) picked up wins in five of the six singles matches to record the 6-1 victory.
 
Patryk Koscielski dropped the first set on the top line of singles, 6-1, but bounced back to even the score with a 6-4 win in the second. Koscielski picked up the victory after outlasting Howard Scott in the third frame, 10-5.
 
In doubles, Detroit picked up a win from the first position as Koscielski and freshman Nicholas Solarewicz took the Phoenix down via a 6-3 decision. Green Bay earned wins from the second and third spots, however, to take the doubles point.
 
Solarewicz put up a fight from the third position of singles, but fell in two sets after falling in the first frame, 7-6 (7-5).
 
UDM returns to the court for back-to-back HL games from Franklin Athletic Club next weekend. Detroit hosts Youngstown State on Saturday, April 2 at 6 p.m., before facing Cleveland State on Sunday, April 3 at 4 p.m.
