DETROIT (4/2/16) – The University of Detroit Mercy women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Youngstown State University on Saturday night from the Franklin Athletic Club.
 
Detroit suffered its first Horizon League loss after the Penguins edged the Titans for the doubles point and took four of the six singles matches on the day.
 
The Titans received wins by Irina Slizovskaya and Iris Thioux in singles for its lone points on the day. Slizovskaya earned a hard fought three-set win from the third position, outlasting Noelly Nsimba 6-4, 2-6 and 10-8. Thioux edged YSU's Ana Store 6-4 in the first set and took the match with a 6-2 win in the second.
 
Anna Davydova and Slizovskaya teamed up to record a 6-2 win from the top line of doubles, with the Penguins picking up wins in the second and third spots.
 
Davydova won the first set from the top singles line, but was forced to retire after suffering an injury.
 
Nynke Van Der Goot fell in a heartbreaking three-set singles match. She surged ahead with a 6-3 win in the first, but saw the score even up as YSU took the second frame, 6-1. The two sides went toe-to-toe but YSU earned the edge with a 16-14 win in set three.
 
The Tians fall to 3-6 overall with the loss, including a 2-1 mark in Horizon League play. Meanwhile, YSU improved to 5-10 overall and 3-0 in conference action.
 
The Titans return to the court tomorrow against Cleveland State. First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m. from the Franklin Athletic Club.
