DETROIT (4/3/16) – The University of Detroit Mercy women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 heartbreaker to Cleveland State on Sunday afternoon from the Franklin Athletic Club.
The Vikings earned the doubles point after taking two of three matches before the Detroit women's team rallied to tie the match at 3-3.
Irina Slizovskaya sparked the rally with a convincing 6-2, 6-3 win from the third position. Freshman
Iris Thioux recorded the Titans' second point with a 6-2, 6-2 win from the sixth and
Anna Davydova downed the Vikings' Isabella Spindler from the top line, 7-5 and 6-3, to even the match.
The decision came down to the fourth position, where Aleksandra Golawska outlasted
Nynke Van Der Goot in a grueling 6-3, 6-7 and 6-1 match to earn the victory for Cleveland State.
Davydova and Slizovskaya earned Detroit's lone doubles win with a 6-2 win from the top line. The Vikings slipped past UDM with a 7-6 edge in the second doubles spot.
Cleveland State improves to 8-7 and 4-0 in Horizon League play with the win, while Detroit falls to 3-7 and 2-2 in conference action.
Detroit will look to bounce back next weekend with a pair of road matches at Wright State and Northern Kentucky. The Titans will face the Raiders Saturday, April 9 and wrap up with the Norse on Sunday.
