Detroit Tennis Hits The Road For Weekend Horizon League Action

DETROIT (4/8/16) – The University of Detroit Mercy men's and women's tennis teams hit the road this weekend in Horizon League action from Ohio and Kentucky. The men's team plays Sunday, April 10 at Northern Kentucky, while the women's team faces Wright State on Saturday and NKU on Sunday.
 
 
THE MEN

SCOUTING THE TITANS
Detroit is 3-13 on the season with a number of fierce opponents already in the books. In conference play, the Titans are 0-3 with a 6-12 mark in singles and are 4-5 in doubles.
 
Patryk Koscielski leads the team with a 3-0 mark from the top line in singles and is 2-1 in doubles. Nathan Ponton is 2-1 from No. 2 singles and is 2-0 in doubles, followed by freshman Adam Zychowicz with a 1-2 record from No. 5 singles.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Titans fell in a pair of heartbreakers last weekend from the Franklin Athletic Club. Detroit closed the weekend with a 4-3 loss to Cleveland State, with the match coming down to a three-set thriller in singles. Koscielski continued his hot spring with another 2-0 performance from the top of singles and doubles.
 
SCOUTING THE NORSE
Northern Kentucky is 6-5 overall and 4-2 in their last six. The Norse have opened Horizon League play with an even 2-2 record and have edged YSU and Cleveland State for their two wins.
 
Mate Virag leads the team with an 8-3 mark from the top singles line, followed by Jody Maginley at 5-2 from the second position. Lukas Clemens rounds out the top performers with a 3-1 record from the No. 3 position.

SCOUTING THE TITANS
Detroit is 3-7 on the season and an even 2-2 in conference play. The Titans opened the league slate with a pair of road wins in Wisconsin, but fell in a pair of tight matches at home last weekend.
 
In conference play, Anna Davydova is an even 2-2 from the top line of singles and Irina Slizovskaya is 4-0 from the No. 3 singles position. The duo has played all four matches of doubles together and is 4-0 from the top spot. Viktoria Laskutova is 2-2 from the fifth singles spot, while freshman Iris Thioux is 4-0 from No. 6.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Titans fell in a pair of tight games from the Franklin Athletic Club last weekend. Detroit dropped the opener to YSU, 5-2, and fell in a gut-wrenching 4-3 decision to Cleveland State in the second match.
 
SCOUTING THE RAIDERS
Wright State snapped a four-game skid with an emphatic 7-0 victory over Valparaiso in their latest contest to pick up their second Horizon League win of the season. The Raiders are 14-7 overall and 2-3 in league play.
 
Karoline Haller leads the team with a 9-4 record from the top line of singles, followed by Linsey Verstrepen with an 8-3 mark from the second position. Elaine Cloem has six wins from No. 3, while Tori Turner is 5-1 from the fourth spot. The Raiders are 8-4 in doubles, highlighted by a 4-0 mark from Megan Brdicka and Elaine Cloern.
 
SCOUTING THE NORSE
NKU is 6-8 overall and 1-4 in HL action, with a lone win against Valparaiso. The Norse have lost three of their last four contests and are coming off a 7-0 defeat at the hands of UIC.
 
Klara Skopac leads the team with eight wins from the top line, followed by Sydney Power with four wins from the second spot. NKU is a combined 11-31 from the No. 4-6 position of singles.
 
ON TAP
Following this weekend's action, the Titans return to Michigan for a pair of home contests against UIC and Valparaiso. Detroit hosts UIC on Saturday, April 16 and Valpo on Sunday, April 17.
