Men's Tennis Falls in Opener at WMU

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (1/15/17) – The University of Detroit Mercy men's tennis team fell, 6-1, in the 2017 season opener at Western Michigan on Sunday night.
 
The Broncos, winners of last season's MAC Championship and preseason conference favorites again in 2017, earned the win over the Titans by taking the doubles point and five of six singles matches.
 
Detroit Mercy's lone victory came from newcomer Artem Vasheshnikov, who picked up where he left off in the fall and improved to 9-2 in singles play with a 7-6, 6-3 win over Maik Steiner from the second position.
 
Senior Patryk Koscielski put up a fight from the top position before falling, 6-3 and 7-5.
 
Detroit Mercy returns to the court on Saturday, Jan. 21 at DePaul. The match is set to begin at 6:15 p.m. EST from the Windy City.
