SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (2/4/17) – The University of Detroit Mercy men's tennis team cruised to a 6-1 win over Wayne State University on Saturday night from Franklin Athletic Club.
The Titans, winners of their last two matches, leveled their record at 2-2 with the triumph.
Detroit Mercy took the top two doubles flights to secure the first point of the match.
Patryk Koscielski and
Artem Vasheshnikov picked up a 7-5 win from the top doubles line, with
Chance Conley and
Nathan Ponton recording a win of the same score from the second position.
The Titans then took five of six singles points to coast to victory.
Koscielski won in straight sets from the top line, 6-2 and 6-4. Vasheshnikov followed suit with a 6-1, 6-1 win from number two and Ponton took the third position, 6-3 and 7-6.
Adam Zychowicz opened with a 6-1 win in the first set from No. 5, before being edged 7-5 in the second frame. Zychowicz regrouped and earned the win by a 6-4 margin in the final set.
Conley added the Titans' final point of the day, bouncing back from a defeat in the first set to win the second and third, 6-2 and 6-4.
Detroit Mercy will return to action quickly with a home match against Northwestern Ohio scheduled for Sunday night. The contest is set to begin at 6 p.m. from Franklin Athletic Club.
