Men’s Tennis Falls at No. 35 Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (3/26/17) – The University of Detroit Mercy men's tennis team suffered a 4-1 defeat at No. 35 Indiana University on Sunday night from the IU Tennis Center.
 
The 35th-ranked Hoosiers took two of three doubles matches and clinched the win with three singles wins. Detroit Mercy got a win from junior Nathan Ponton on the third position and had two matches in extra sets before the match was clinched for Indiana.
 
Ponton recorded a straight set victory of 6-3 and 6-0 from the third position of singles to highlight the day for the Titans.
 
Sophomore Artem Vasheshnikov had No. 121 Antonio Cembellin in a tight third-set battle before their match went unfinished from the top line of singles. Vasheshnikov won the opener 6-3 before falling 6-4 in the second.
 
Sophomore Adam Zychowicz was up in a decisive third set when his match went unfinished from the fifth-position of singles. The sophomore won the opening set 6-4, before falling in the second 6-2 and holding a 2-1 lead in the third.
 
In doubles, Ponton and Vasheshnikov picked up a win on the top line with a 6-4 decision over the Hoosiers.
 
The match closes non-conference play for Detroit Mercy as the Titans look to prepare for the Horizon Leauge opener against Green Bay (Apr. 2).
