MACON, Ga. (3/7/17) – The University of Detroit Mercy men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision at Mercer University on Wednesday morning from the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.

Sophomore Artem Vasheshnikov earned a hard-fought win from the top singles line and junior Nathan Ponton did the same from No. 3, but it was not enough as the Bears earned the win to improve to 12-2 on the season.

Vasheshnikov won the opening set, 6-2, before Nicolas Guillon of Mercer evened the match with a 6-2 win of his own in the second. Vasheshnikov would emerge victorious, however, with a 6-2 win in the third frame.

Ponton took his match in straight sets, but the junior had to earn it. Ponton won the opening set, 7-6 (8-6), before taking the second, 6-3.

Senior Patryk Koscielski and sophomore Adam Zychowicz put up a fight from the second and fifth positions, respectively, but were put down by the Bears to seal the win.

With the loss, the Titans fall to 5-7. Detroit Mercy will have an opportunity to bounce back tomorrow against Kennesaw State. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
