DETROIT (4/2/17) – The University of Detroit Mercy women's tennis team picked up a 4-0 sweep over Green Bay in Sunday afternoon Horizon League action from the Titan Tennis Courts in the Motor City.
The Titans wasted little time and got on the board first with a convincing performance in doubles. Freshman
Marie Maitrot and sophomore
Iris Thioux picked up a 6-2 win from the top doubles line and the rookie duo of
Ksenia Providokhina and
Pauline Van Herck followed suit with a 6-2 win from No. 3. Detroit Mercy led the final doubles match, 5-1, but the match went unfinished as the Titans had already clinched the point.
Maitrot dominated No. 2 singles and picked up a win in straight sets after wins of 6-1 and 6-0. Van Der Goot powered her way to a win in straight sets as well, taking No. 4 singles with a pair of 6-1 wins.
Van Herck picked up a 6-1, 6-3 win from No. 6 to clinch the match for the Titans as the final three decisions went unfinished.
With the win, Detroit Mercy improves to 2-0 in Horizon League play and 6-8 overall.
The Titans will look to keep the momentum going next weekend with a pair of conference matches at Youngstown State (Apr. 8) and Cleveland State (Apr. 9).
