Titans Fall to Spartans in East Lansing

EAST LANSING, Mich. (1/21/18) – The University of Detroit Mercy women's tennis team suffered a 4-0 setback to Michigan State University on Sunday night from the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.
 
Sophomore Sara Mitrakovic and newcomer Sophie Torcello were tied with Aslina Chua and Julia Fenn of MSU at No. 3 doubles, 6-6, but the match would go unfinished as the Spartans clinched the doubles point with wins on the top two lines.
 
Freshmen Chelsea Apawti and Jasmine Apawti played a tough game on the top doubles line, falling in a narrow 7-5 decision.
 
Sophomore Ksenia Providokhina earned a 7-5 win in the first set of singles before the match was decided with the Spartans (4-0) clinching the necessary three matches for a 4-0 win.
 
The Titans will look to bounce back after a two-week break when the squad returns to action against Utah State on Feb. 2.
