DETROIT (2/10/18) – The University of Detroit Mercy men's tennis team increased its win streak to four as the Titans swept Niagara University, 7-0, on Saturday night from Franklin Athletic Club in Southfield, Mich.
The Titans improve to 4-2 on the season and 4-0 at home with the win.
Detroit Mercy was sharp start to finish – sweeping doubles and taking all six singles matches in straight sets.
Jenya Sirous went 2-0 in his Titan debut with a 6-1 win alongside
Artem Vasheshnikov at No. 1 doubles and a 6-0, 6-2 edge at No. 4 singles.
Ismail Kadyrov and
Nathan Ponton picked up a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles, while
Gvidas Motuzas and
Adam Zychowicz cruised to a 6-2 win at No. 3.
Vasheshnikov outlasted Taylan Ozdemir in the first set, 7-5, before a strong 6-1 win in the second frame at No. 1 singles.
Ponton picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2, followed by a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3 from
Luka Soskic.
Alvaro Arce cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5 and Motuzas closed it out with a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 6.
Detroit Mercy will look to extend its winning streak next weekend when the Titans hit the road to take on Saint Francis and Duquesne in the Keystone State.
