PITTSBURGH (2/19/18) – The University of Detroit Mercy women's tennis team suffered a 7-0 defeat against Duquesne on Sunday night in the Steel City.
The Titans fell on the wrong side of a close doubles contest, with the Dukes taking the top two lines by scores of 7-6. Duquesne would capitalize on the momentum as the hosts swept singles for the win.
Duquesne improves to 7-1 on the season with the win, while the Titans fall to 3-5.
Freshmen
Chelsea Apawti and
Jasmine Apawti fell in a tight affair at No. 1 doubles, 7-6 (8-5).
Junior
Pauline Van Herck and newcomer
Sophie Torcello also suffered a 7-6 defeat with the duo falling at No. 2 doubles.
Detroit Mercy will look to bounce back this Friday when the squad heads to Toledo for a 1 p.m. showdown. The Titans also welcome Bowling Green State to the Motor City on Sunday for a 6 p.m. contest from Franklin Athletic Club.
