EAST LANSING, Mich. (2/24/18) – The University of Detroit Mercy men's tennis team was tripped up in a pair of contests against Ball State and Michigan State on Saturday from the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility in East Lansing.
The Titans fell to a strong Cardinals squad, 4-1, in the opener on Saturday, before suffering a 5-0 defeat to the Spartans later in the evening.
Freshman
Luka Soskic picked up a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles against Ball State's Thibault De Negri.
Junior
Artem Vasheshnikov won the opening set at No. 1 singles against Ball State, 7-6, and led 3-0 in the second frame when the match was called off.
The Spartans earned the doubles point and carried the momentum into singles, where Michigan State would pick up four points.
Detroit Mercy falls to 5-5 overall on the spring, while Ball State improves to 8-1 and Michigan State moves to 6-7.
The Titans will look to bounce back when they return to the court over spring break in Tennessee. Detroit Mercy will take on Tennessee State (Mar. 5), Austin Peay (Mar. 8) and Lipscomb (Mar. 9) to kick off a five-game road stretch that also includes dates at Xavier and Louisville.
