DETROIT (2/3/18) – The University of Detroit Mercy men's tennis team cruised to a 7-0 win over the University of Findlay in Saturday night action from Franklin Athletic Club in Southfield, Mich.
The Titans made quick work of the Oilers, sweeping doubles and singles from top to bottom.
The win is the second of the weekend for Detroit Mercy, leveling the Titans' record at 2-2.
Gvidas Motuzas and
Adam Zychowicz took the first decision of the day, a 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles.
Nathan Ponton and
Luka Soskic earned a 6-1 win from No. 1 before
Alvaro Arce and
Ismail Kadyrov closed out No. 2, 6-2.
In singles,
Artem Vasheshnikov took the top line with wins of 6-4 and 6-2. The Titans would secure the sweep with Ponton earning a win of 6-3 and 6-1 from No. 2, Soskic winning 6-0 and 6-3 at No. 3, Arce 6-1 and 6-2 at No. 4, Zychowicz 6-1 and 7-5 at No. 5 and finally Motuzas 6-2 and 6-1 from No. 6.
The Titans are off until next weekend when they welcome Chicago State and Niagara to the Motor City on Friday morning and Saturday night, respectively.
Friday's match against Chicago State starts at 9 a.m., with Saturday's action vs. Niagara is slated for a 7 p.m. start. Both matches will be held at Franklin Athletic Club in Southfield, Mich.
