DETROIT (2/9/18) – The University of Detroit Mercy women's tennis team was edged, 4-3, by Chicago State on a snowy Friday afternoon from Franklin Athletic Club in Southfield, Mich.

A Titan trip up in doubles proved costly as the Cougars earned a split in singles to take the hard-fought match by a single point.

Freshman Jasmine Apawti earned a singles win in straight sets at No. 2, 6-3 and 6-2, while sophomore Ksenia Providokhina won 6-2 and 6-2 from No. 6.

Newcomer Sophie Torcello earned a win after dropping the first set of No. 3 and bouncing back with wins of 6-2 and 6-3.

The Cougars took the remaining three matches to seal the win.

The Titans will look to bounce back on Saturday as they welcome Niagara to Franklin Athletic Club for a 2 p.m. contest.
